Finding my new foundation

Ever since I started using makeup, I’ve always been obsessed with the eyes and everything about them. Eyeshadow palettes, eyeliners, mascaras – those have always been my jam. But as I was walking through Sephora the other day I decided that it was time to branch out. How is it that I have like 7 different eyeshadow palettes but only one old tinted moisturizer that I should probably get rid of?

So I ventured over to the foundation area and decided it was time that I started to treat the rest of my face with the same respect that I use for my eyes. I ended up grabbing four different samples – a tinted moisturizer, a tinted primer, and two full coverage foundations.

I just realized that almost all of them are made by Tarte. My bad.

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer: This product is amazing because it’s so multi-functional. It can work as a moisturizer, foundation, primer, SPF, and so much more. It doesn’t take a lot, it blends easily and because the product is so light, it’s very natural looking. It is just a primer, so not full coverage, but a foundation can be put over it to offer more if needed. One bad thing is that there aren’t a lot of color options. I’m super pale so I got lucky that the fairest color worked for me.

Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer: The product is noticeably thicker than the BB tinted treatment but it still feels very lightweight on the skin and blends easily. It is a tinted moisturizer, so not full coverage and for me personally, this didn’t offer enough. Especially when I went to check in on it at the end of the day (where’d it go?!). Also, a lot of reviews said that it also has a bit of shimmer to it so yeah. Not really into that.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea™ Water Foundation: This is a full coverage foundation so it doesn’t look as natural as the primer or tinted moisturizer. Because it’s a water foundation, it’s a very very VERY runny formula. It’s supposed to be a natural moisturizer but it definitely didn’t feel that way on my skin. If anything, it felt more drying than moisturizing and loved to settle in and highlight all the dry patches on my face. So not what I needed – especially with drier/cooler air coming.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation: This is Rihanna’s new beauty line and while I don’t want to be that person who just jumps on the bandwagon, after testing it out, I’m totally in. This is a long-lasting, matte foundation that can provide both a medium and full coverage. It blends like a dream and leaves your skin feeling velvety smooth. It’s made for all skin types and comes in 40 (yes, 40!) different shades. You do need to make sure that your skin is properly moisturized before putting it on, but it doesn’t highlight all your dry areas as much as the Tarte Water Foundation did.

After trying all of the products out I’d have to say that my favorites were the Fenty Beauty foundation and Tarte BB tinted treatment. For an everyday makeup routine, the BB is perfect! And for those special nights out, the Fenty will leave your face looking flawless!

What’s your favorite foundation? Have you tried any of the products I mention in the post? Let me know below!

    1. I haven’t bought any of them…yet! You actually get a good amount in the samples so I’m finishing those up before actually purchasing anything. But the BB Tinted Treatment is at the top of my (very long) list!

    1. It’s so nice and comes in SO MANY SHADES! They also make some amazing highlighters. Plus I just love the packaging and how everything fits together.
