7-workout-songs-get-motivated

Maybe it’s the millennial in me but I love making playlists. It takes me back to the good ol’ days of creating that perfect mix CD to help get me going (I had one for the mornings, one for bus rides, one for dancing to, one for parties, etc). So it’s a no-brainer that I would obsess over crafting the perfect workout playlist. Below you’ll find my top 7 songs (in no particular order) that are guaranteed to get you moving! Word of warning – these songs do have some explicit lyrics so just keep that in mind.

  • Hey Mama by David Guetta
The other day I watched a video that Bebe Rexha was in and turns out she does the chorus for this song! Totally did not realize that BUT that helped me remember how good this song is. While it was definitely overplayed when it first came out, I feel it’s been long enough that we can bring it back.
  • Kids by Sleigh Bells
Remember when MTV came out with their version of the British show Skins? It was pretty bad. The one good thing that came out of it was that they used Kids in one of the trailers. My first introduction to Sleigh Bells, I can now say that they consistently come out with bangers and this is no exception.
  • Run The World (Girls) by Beyonce
I mean, how could I not?
  • Feel It Still by Portugal. The Man.
The beat to this song is so crazy catchy – I dare you to not start moving when you hear it. It should be on one of those “try not to dance” challenges. Those are a thing, right?
  • Crazy by 4Minute
Stay with me here. I understand that this song is in Korean but THAT BEAT. Just give it a chance – you can thank me later.
  • Run The Jewels by Run The Jewels
I was first introduced to this hip-hop duo by my boyfriend and instantly I was hooked. With their dirty beats, they’ll definitely get you going every time you get into the gym. Word of warning – the explicit warning was for this band.
  • Namesake by Tunde Olaniran
Not only does this song have an amazing pace for running, walking, or dancing, but it also has a lovely message behind it about being happy with who you are. Just an all around feel good song.

So there you have it! I’ve added all these songs into one handy playlist so you can easily check them out. What is one of your favorite songs to workout to? Let me know in the comments!

Thank you! I used to make playlists on cassettes too! I would pretend I had my own radio show and then just record the songs when they came on. Super professional 😉

I had never heard of any of these songs, so I listened to all of them just now because I like to discover new music but don’t often remember to seek it out. I had actually heard the Nicki Minaj song before, just didn’t know who it was by. My favorites on the list were the Portugal. The Man one and the Tunde Olaniran one, although the Run the Jewels one and the Nicki Minaj one both had interesting videos, and the K-pop one…after living in Korea for a year K-pop will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for putting together a fun list!

I’m glad you found something new! I was a little nervous because I tried to put together a list that wasn’t just the same type of music or Top 40 hits, but I’m glad you were able to find a couple that you liked!
